I am currently in Melbourne at a week long leadership conference as part of the Arrow course that I’m doing.
Today has been an unusual day. It has been a day of prayer, fasting and reflection.. It has been great for me to let the dust settle and just listen to my heart for a bit.. I want to do this kind of thing more often.
As I come to the end of the day, a poem has just found its way into my journal.. which is fairly unusual for me.
I didn’t like English much at school, and most of the poetry I read seemed boring or trite.
I really don’t profess to be a poet in any way shape or form, but because this blog is about my journey, I figure I will share it with you.
Live the insurrection
A far off land, a distant place
seems where I should set my face.
Ordinary, Normal, Mundane, Today
seem less important, less okay.
I long for adventure, for focus
but I find myself distracted, stressed out,
fixed in a locus
that feels so small
I want to fly, but God tells me to walk
I want to run, but God tells me to stand
I don’t understand
But perhaps I do…….
There is no land
No distant horizon
That qualifies me for life.
My life, rife with strife,
is where I am.
Here is the place, Now is the time.
Live, Play, Love, Dream.
Don’t waste life waiting, cogitating, debating
the best direction.
Live the insurrection.
Take hold of the dreams for tomorrow
and make them today
Don’t buy the lie that someday
you will be o.k.
Today is the day
Hope comes as you live now
and not tomorrow or yesterday.
Lets make a pact to act,
not fall back in fear
The world is waiting
for people who will live,
