Out of the box

I am sitting at Melbourne airport. I have been here since about 3pm. It’s now quarter to 8 and I’m here until 9pm.
I actually don’t mind the wait… its giving me a bit of space to process what has been quite a significant week.
I have spent this week rubbing shoulders with other leaders from Christian organizations and churches at our first of four conferences over the next 20 months.
It has been a very important time for me.
I went into the week feeling quite heavy. Leadership is a privilege and I love what we are doing in Fusion, but living in the world of the unresolved can be a bit wearing at times.
One of the most special aspects of the week is being able to interact with leaders from across the nation. The photo above is from our concluding service today where we each placed a candle where we were from, and as you can see the 30 of us cover most of the population centers of the country.
I think one of the things that gave me most hope was meeting so many remarkable people who have committed themselves to serving God, often in quite different ways to me, but there was a profound sense that we are on the same team.
The week featured a range of very practical input, but probably the moment that had the biggest impact on me personally was a day spent in silence for reflection and prayer. It was a relief to have a day to just let the dust settle, and it was at the end of that day I wrote the poem in my previous post.
The nice sense for me from the week was that God was gently telling me that I am on the right track and to simply keep on going.
There were some things that stood out and I hope to put a few of them up on the blog in coming days.
There is something very important about getting outside of the box in which you normally live.
That said I am very much looking forward to getting home!
