Getting out of the rut
Leaving the familiar
I am writing this from a porch looking over a wall of hills covered in gum trees.
I am at a camp site just outside of Lithgow that Fusion runs called Maranatha.
For the past 10 years we have had all our national meetings in Poatina, and this time, for a bit of a change, we have come here.
I think the change has been worthwhile, just to mix things up a bit.
I think its possibe to become too familiar with the normal.
I heard two quotes today that I have had going round in my head:
Sometimes the rut you are in can become so deep that it ends up being a grave
Sometimes you can spend so long in the trenches that you begin to confuse the top of the trench with the horizon
Change isn’t easy or safe, and change just for the sake of change is dangerous.
I have been reminded though, through this minor change, how sometimes deviating from well worn paths can bring a freshness and openness that happens no other way.
I seem to remember a verse that says something like “Behold I make all things new”.
We are creatures of habit, and from time to time its great to have to examine those habits and have them challenged.
I’m looking forward to a different week.
Good stuff Matt… love it!
