Letting go of my view
It’s how you see things
You may have noticed I have missed a few days on the blog.
This has been because we have just finished Fusion’s annual conference and then a one day international congress.
As part of the process of congress a group of three people including me were elected to the new “National Directorate” to oversee Fusion’s work both in Australia and overseas.
I’m still processing the new role and what it will mean for my ability to continue to write the blogs regularly.
One of the passages of scripture that became a real theme through the conference was Colossians 3, which I just happened to be up to in my quiet time this morning.
The first couple of verses reminded me of a quote I have heard a number of times:
“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.”
Anais Nin
It’s so true!
One of the great challenges for me is that even though I know intellectually that the way I see the world isn’t all there is to see, its still the way I see things.
Paul points out in Colossians 3:1-2, that I need to be looking beyond myself to what Jesus is doing:
So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.
The more I travel along this journey the more I realise Jesus doesn’t see the world the way I do.
I came across the following quote:
“You can safely assume you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out he hates all of the same people you do.”
-Anne Lamott”
As I orientate to my new role as part of a leadership team, I know that one of my ongoing challenges will be not to be too settled in how I see things.
WOw what r great blog. This is timely matt as I often see things as I am and not the way Jesus sees them..Colossians 3 has been helpful the last few weeks.
