Step eleven: Reflect

Learn from the experience

A time of conflict can be also a time of learning and growth, but there is no guarantee of that.

In order to learn from a time of conflict we need to take the time to stop and think about it.

John Dewey said:

“We don’t learn from experience; we learn from reflecting on experience.”

Socrates said

“The unexamined life is not worth living.”

Peter Drucker said:

Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.

So the final step, step eleven, is about learning from the experience of conflict.

Step eleven is:

When the (confrontation is over, Sit down and ask:

What have I learned about myself?

What have I learned about the other person?

What have I learned about the process of confrontation?

What have I learned about God and his nature?

What have I learned in this exercise about the process of being a peacemaker ?
