Why do we do what we do?

Devotion given on 16/03/2010

Just come back from interstate travel; went to Kapunda, S/Aust, where Fusion have just taken on leasing a hostel, office block & hall from Salvo’s. 20 minutes from Barossa.  Hostel was started by Australia’s new Saint (Mary McKillop) for “at risk” female teenagers.

2 Corinth 5:17-21 is where Fusion’s mandate comes from…. What is the heart of Fusion?

Helpful to look at verse 14 first – “for Christ’s love compels us”

Mother Teresa said “many confuse our work with our vocation; but it should be our love of Jesus is our vocation.”

Bob Adams used to tell stories about how he imagined Jesus to live life as a human and relate with his disciples.  For example, imagine disciples walking along shores of Lake Galilee with Jesus who is chatting with Phillip and James.  Peter picks up clump of mud and makes a mud-ball, throws it at another disciple and hits back of head; other disciple makes a mud-ball and suddenly 10 of them are throwing them around. Suddenly Peter accidentally hits Jesus, and walks over the apologise.  What would you do if you hurt the son of God??  Jesus picks up mud, and gets him back… Reminded that Jesus was actually a man, a human; only 3 of his 33 years were spent in ministry.

When Matt became leader within Fusion, spent lots of time reading books on management, leadership, developing goals, mission statements etc, however if its without Christ, then its empty.

We love because he first loved us.

Poatina’s purpose is for young people, however if Jesus not the centre of our lives, then it could be said its all done in vain.
